The Nauset Light is located near Eastham, Massachusetts. The original lights at this location were three fifteen-foot high masonry towers built 150 feet apart from each other. There were three lights at this location to differentiate it from Truro and Chatham which had one and two lights respectively. These towers were white with black lanterns, and were known as “The Three Sisters of Nauset”. These are the towers that Thoreau would have seen and described in his book, Cape Cod.

Nauset Beach is one of the most popular beaches on Cape Cod. It is located in Orleans, and like most New England Beaches, the water is generally cold. Nauset beach faces the open ocean which make this one of the most popular surfing areas on the cape. I photographed this on a day when a winter storm was approaching. The clouds were constantly increasing as the front moved in, creating some really impressive skies.
Henry David Thoreau writes about Nauset Beach in his book Cape Cod. In the following two passages, he describes the seas during a storm.
